Chinese chip manufacturers have managed to capture a significant share of the artificial intelligence accelerator server market in China, reaching 41% according to a report from IDC, a market research firm specializing in the tech industry. This report, reviewed by Reuters, projects this market share for the year 2025.
Nvidia, while still leading, is seeing its dominance erode. The company shipped approximately 2.2 million cards, representing 55% of the market. However, competition is intensifying, with a total of 4 million AI accelerator cards shipped in China.
Chinese suppliers collectively shipped 1.65 million cards. Huawei is leading this national advance with 812,000 chips shipped. Alibaba's chip unit, T-Head, follows with 265,000 cards. Baidu Kunlunxin and Cambricon are tied, each having shipped 116,000 units. AMD, for its part, holds only a modest 4% market share.
This shift is largely attributed to strengthened U.S. export controls, which are pushing Beijing to encourage the use of domestic chips. This strategy aims to reduce reliance on foreign technologies and bolster the national industry.
