Luma and Wonder Project Join Forces for a New Cinematic Era

The startup specializing in AI-generated video, Luma, has recently announced the launch of a new production company named Innovative Dreams. This project is the result of a collaboration with Wonder Project, a streaming service known for its religious-themed films and series available on Amazon Prime. This initiative marks a significant step in the evolution of film production, integrating cutting-edge technologies to create innovative content.

The first project born from this partnership, titled “The Old Stories: Moses”, will feature British actor Ben Kingsley. This program is set to premiere next spring on Prime Video, promising to bring a new perspective on biblical narratives through the use of AI.

A Collaboration Between Experts and Technologists

Innovative Dreams presents itself as a production service company where experienced filmmakers, under the direction of director Jon Erwin, collaborate with creative technologists from Luma. Together, they aim to assist major studios and directors in realizing ambitious ideas. This collaboration allows creative teams to work in real-time with Luma Agents, innovative tools that facilitate the modification of sets, props, and lighting while integrating sequences of human actors.

The Luma Agents are tools recently developed by the company, designed to manage the entire creative process, from text to image, video, and audio. This approach represents a significant advancement over traditional virtual production and performance capture methods, which primarily rely on post-production.

The Impact of AI on Film Production

Luma highlights the advantages of AI, not only in terms of speed and cost but also in terms of superior quality compared to existing methods. In a social media post, Luma emphasized that AI offers possibilities that exceed the capabilities of traditional processes.

Luma is not alone in this transition to production. For example, the AI startup Higgsfield recently launched an original series with a 10-minute science fiction episode, while Wonder Studios, based in London, is collaborating with Campfire Studios on a documentary.

A Paradigm Shift for Hollywood

This initiative from Luma comes at a time when Cristóbal Valenzuela, co-founder and co-CEO of Runway, suggested that film studios could use AI to produce 50 films with the budget traditionally allocated to just one, thereby increasing their chances of success. Amit Jain, founder and CEO of Luma, shares this vision, stating that generative AI could make film production faster, cheaper, and more efficient without compromising quality.

Wonder Project: A Key Player in Religious Content

Wonder Project, launched in 2023, is led by director Jon Erwin and former Netflix executive Kelly Hoogstraten. Their mission is to serve a global audience seeking values and faith. Their first production, House of David, a dramatic series about the life of King David, was released on Amazon Prime in 2025.

It remains to be seen whether Innovative Dreams will focus solely on religious content or explore other genres. TechCrunch has sought clarification on this matter.

A New Hybrid Production Process

In a promotional video, Erwin explained that Innovative Dreams will adopt a real-time hybrid filmmaking process. This process combines performance capture, as seen in “Avatar”, and virtual production, as in “The Mandalorian”, all conducted live and more economically thanks to Luma's tools.

Performance capture allows actors to perform in a green screen environment, with costumes and facial markers to digitally capture their movements and expressions. Virtual production, on the other hand, uses LED screens to create a real-time environment, merging the physical and digital worlds during filming.

Luma's tools enable filming a human actor anywhere and transporting them into a photorealistic scene, or even generating a new face while retaining the movements and expressions of the original actor.
