MacPaw and Liquid AI: A Strategic Collaboration for On-Device AI
Ukrainian company MacPaw, known for its innovative applications, has recently announced a strategic partnership with Liquid AI. This partnership aims to integrate locally hosted artificial intelligence models into MacPaw's products, with the ultimate goal of making this technology accessible to developers. Meanwhile, MacPaw is preparing its app store, SetApp, to host AI applications with a credit-based pricing system for users.
Eney and Elix: Towards Local and Secure AI
MacPaw is actively working on Eney, its AI assistant unveiled last year, and is considering creating a locally hosted version. To realize this vision, MacPaw has sought the expertise of Liquid AI to develop Elix, an on-device inference system, as well as a local memory system. This approach promises numerous benefits, particularly in terms of security and privacy protection, as highlighted by Ramin Hasani, co-founder and CEO of Liquid AI. MacPaw's CEO, Oleksandr Kosovan, also indicated that these locally hosted AI models would allow users to run assistants and autonomous workflows offline.
Performance and Customization at the Heart of the Strategy
While Apple already offers local models for developers, Liquid AI emphasizes the performance and adaptability of its models. According to Hasani, the company is building a customization infrastructure around its models, enabling continuous improvement through user feedback. This adaptability aims to make the models smarter and more efficient over time.
SetApp: An App Store Focused on the Future of AI
MacPaw aims to enhance the presence of AI applications in its SetApp store, which operates on a subscription model and has over 150,000 paying users. In collaboration with Liquid AI, MacPaw intends to provide developers with the necessary tools to utilize on-device inference in their applications. Oleksandr Kosovan, CEO of MacPaw, specified that the platform would also offer access to other cloud models, including those from Google, making SetApp a one-stop shop for developers.
Towards Innovative Credit-Based Pricing
MacPaw is currently experimenting with innovative pricing for its app store, based on credits. This system allows users to perform a certain number of AI operations based on available credits and the complexity of tasks. This approach could transform the user experience by offering more flexibility and control over the use of AI resources.
