Mark Cuban: A Vision for AI Companies in the Face of Job Losses

Mark Cuban, the renowned entrepreneur and investor, recently voiced a strong opinion on the role of artificial intelligence companies in today's society. According to him, these companies should dedicate billions of dollars to support cities suffering from job losses caused by automation. He referred to this expenditure as a "cost of doing business," emphasizing that AI companies are losing a crucial battle for public perception.

In a post on the social media platform X, Cuban criticized major AI companies for not prioritizing people. He insisted that they must begin investing in local communities that could be severely impacted by job losses due to automation. "Companies need to start courting these communities," he stated, highlighting the urgency of such an approach.

A Call to Action for AI Companies

Cuban emphasized the importance of allocating billions of dollars to municipal programs, asserting that for companies developing large language models, this should be considered a normal business expense. He pointed out that this approach could help improve the public relations of AI companies, which are currently struggling.

Furthermore, Cuban addressed the concerns of creatives regarding the impact of AI on their professions. He claimed that every creative he knows is terrified by the potential changes that AI could bring to their work. He advised companies to go directly to Los Angeles and New York to engage in dialogue with artists and offer them support, both financial and creative. He stressed that companies must meet these creatives face to face and essentially do what they say.

Critique of Current AI Company Strategies

Cuban also criticized the idea that AI companies should pay celebrities to promote their activities, labeling this strategy as "stupid." He emphasized the importance of respecting the workers who contribute daily to the economy, pointing out that AI companies need to consider the energy needs and infrastructure required to support their operations. He warned that, given the number of data centers and the energy required, if companies do not "respect" the workers, they will be far below the capacity needed to run their business.

His message comes at a time when job losses related to AI have significantly increased this year. In the United States, at least 16 companies have announced layoffs due to redundancies caused by AI, including giants like Snap, Cisco, and Coinbase. Tensions have also emerged during university graduation ceremonies, where speeches mentioning AI have been met with boos, illustrating the rising public concerns regarding automation.
