McKinsey Tests an AI Client in Its Junior Interviews

McKinsey introduces a 10-minute exchange with an AI-simulated client for part of its entry-level recruitment. The initiative will be deployed as a test in certain offices and evaluated by humans, without automated scoring.
A Controlled Pilot Without Automated Scoring
The AI simulation will not be responsible for scoring candidates. Human evaluators will be present to observe how applicants handle the simulated situations. This initiative will be tested with undergraduate students applying for business analyst positions, and only in select offices. The simulation is not designed to represent an unbalanced client.

Targeting Profiles and Role in the Process
The test is aimed at entry-level candidates. The interview with the virtual client is part of the recruitment process. McKinsey & Company, a consulting firm, is thus adding an observation step to its evaluation framework.
A 10-Minute Exchange to Cover the Essentials
The candidates involved will need to engage in a dialogue with an AI simulation embodying a client for 10 minutes. The goal of the tool is to replicate 80% of the situations that McKinsey consultants encounter in their daily activities.
