The co-founders of ARI, Xiaolong Wang and Lerrel Pinto, along with their team, will join Meta's Superintelligence Labs division. Wang, a former researcher at Nvidia and an associate professor at UC San Diego, and Pinto, a former professor at NYU, bring valuable expertise. Pinto previously co-founded Fauna Robotics, a startup focused on humanoid robots for children, which was recently acquired by Amazon.

ARI focuses on developing models that allow humanoid robots to perform various physical tasks, including household chores. This expertise is crucial for Meta, which has been working for years on humanoid robotics technology.

Meta aims to develop humanoid robots for consumers, although these products are not yet on the market. According to experts, the development of artificial general intelligence (AGI) may require AI models trained in the physical world, where robots learn through direct interaction.
