Meta recently unveiled a new feature for its AI assistant, Meta AI, called "Incognito Chat." This innovative mode allows users to converse with the AI without their exchanges being recorded on the company's servers. According to Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, this feature relies on a secure environment known as Trusted Execution Environment, which ensures that even Meta does not have access to the data from the conversations.
The Incognito Chat mode stands out for its approach to privacy: discussions are encrypted and ephemeral, disappearing from the device once the session is over. Zuckerberg emphasized that, unlike other AI companies that retain data for months, Meta is a pioneer in offering such privacy.
This feature is currently being rolled out on WhatsApp and the Meta AI app. It comes at a time when AI giants like Google and OpenAI have faced criticism for incidents related to data privacy. For example, users have seen their conversations indexed by Google or have had to submit data as part of legal disputes. However, Zuckerberg did not specify how Meta plans to handle potential abuses in this private mode.
