Meta has introduced a Mac application for its Meta AI assistant, featuring system-wide dictation and on-screen contextual understanding via Muse Spark. The same update targets business needs, with connections to Instagram, Facebook, and Google Workspace for querying and generating content. Google, for its part, activated system dictation in Gemini for Mac last month.
Zuckerberg Aims for Agent Sales and Automation
During the presentation of the second quarter 2026 results, Mark Zuckerberg indicated that a significant opportunity exists to offer agents to businesses and automate tasks on their behalf. At the same time, Meta states it is ramping up the availability of its AI solutions for companies to support customer service automation and inquiries on its platforms, such as WhatsApp and Instagram. The Mac application is part of a Meta AI update specifically aimed at business leaders.
Merchants: Connections to IG, Facebook, and Google Workspace
Meta indicates that merchants can link their Instagram and Facebook accounts, their Meta advertising campaigns, as well as their Google Workspace accounts (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides) to Meta AI and query these sources via the assistant. The company specifies that the assistant can provide insights into campaign performance and engagement metrics to identify effective posts. Users can also access competitor data based on publicly available information. With these integrations, the assistant is also presented as capable of creating presentations, drafting documents, and spreadsheets.
New Mac App: Universal Dictation and On-Screen Context
Meta has announced a Mac application for Meta AI equipped with a system-wide dictation feature. The company notes that this dictation works with all applications. Meta also highlights on-screen contextual understanding thanks to the Muse Spark model, allowing the assistant to respond based on what the user is viewing. The system dictation is reminiscent of other utilities like Wispr Flow, Superwhisper, and Monologue. Additionally, Google updated Gemini for Mac last month to enable dictation accessible throughout the system.
