Meta bets on Muse and multiplies entry points to its AI agent: smart glasses, Mac control, and a keychain announced for the holidays. Several American retailers are set to connect, while a new VR headset priced at $1,300 and weighing 100 grams makes its debut. The stock market welcomes the shift, despite ongoing privacy concerns.
Stock Market Rises 25% as Privacy Remains a Friction Point
Meta's stock has risen by about 25% since the launch of Muse. However, it is still early for the AI agent, and Meta's video glasses continue to face privacy-related criticisms. At the end of his speech, Mark Zuckerberg urged the audience to remain optimistic. In the industry, Steve Lukas, founder and CEO of ContractXR, expressed his excitement about the renewed enthusiasm for VR, while reminding that the field has seemed "on the edge" for a while.
Muse Expands to Ray-Ban and Takes Control of the Mac
Muse is now available on Meta's Ray-Ban glasses and can take control of a Mac. The agent can perform tasks such as booking a flight or placing orders. Launched on September 8, it is touted as having met with strong success and was the centerpiece of the Meta Connect edition. On stage, Mark Zuckerberg showcased his own agent, Agrippa, a toga-clad avatar, whom he asked to check his calendar and the availability of the company's CNC machines and 3D printers.
Announced Retailers and New Smart Keychain for the Holidays
On the ecosystem front, several retailers are set to connect to Muse: Alexandr Wang mentioned Walmart, Best Buy, Dick’s, and a dozen other retailers. A small Tamagotchi-style device, designed to be attached to a keychain, was also unveiled, with shipping announced just in time for the holidays. During the launch session, Mark Zuckerberg, Andrew Bosworth, and Alexandr Wang rolled out announcements, including a new pair of smart glasses without a camera.
$1,300 VR Headset Weighing 100g Unveiled on Stage
The hardware segment was marked by the reveal of a new VR headset priced at $1,300, described as visually similar to ordinary sunglasses. The manufacturer announced a weight of 100 grams for this model.
Staging at Menlo Park and Strategic Trajectory
Meta Connect took place in the auditorium of the Menlo Park headquarters, featuring a strong presence of the mascot Jolly. After the announcements, "Agent" cocktails accompanied a party at Hacker Square, where double-decker buses transported guests on a journey of over 25 minutes. Chefs were stationed in front of a red cabin, Lightning Bolt’s Smoke House, with a menu curated by Meta. Strategically, Alexandr Wang presented Muse as a unique opportunity for this generation and touted it as a success. Meta's major past decisions have revolved around the metaverse, Llama, and legless avatars; following Llama's failure to gain traction, the company invested several billion to revive its efforts and brought Wang in from Scale AI. The initiative around personal AI assistants, for the first time associated with 2025, was showcased on stage as yielding results. This marked Wang's first keynote at Meta.
