Meta, the social media giant, is working on an ambitious new project: an AI-powered pendant. According to a memo revealed by The Information, the company plans to begin testing this innovative device by next year.
This pendant is inspired by the work of Limitless, a startup specializing in AI devices that Meta acquired in 2025. Limitless had already developed a pendant capable of recording conversations, which could be worn as a necklace or attached to a shirt. At the time of the acquisition, Meta emphasized that this move would accelerate the development of its AI-enabled wearable devices.
However, AI-powered wearables have so far struggled to capture the public's interest. Concerns related to privacy and perceived inadequate marketing may explain this lack of enthusiasm. Despite this, companies like OpenAI continue to persevere in this field.
The memo also mentions that Meta has plans to expand its range of AI glasses and introduce a professional subscription called Wearables for Work. These initiatives aim to revitalize Meta's Reality Labs division, which reported a loss of $4 billion in the first quarter of the year.
TechCrunch has reached out to Meta for a comment on this matter, but no response has been provided yet.
