Meta Enters the AI Race with Muse Code

Meta, often seen as lagging in the field of artificial intelligence, is taking a significant step to close this gap. This week, the company announced the launch of Muse Code, a new terminal coding agent designed to assist programmers in managing complex tasks across large codebases. This tool is aimed at developers who need help navigating vast software code repositories.

Muse Code is currently in beta and is capable of performing complete software engineering tasks on large code repositories. Meta's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, shared this news on Wednesday via a social media post, highlighting that Muse Code can handle processes such as planning changes, writing code, and validating results.

A Powerful Tool Based on Muse Spark

The Muse Code agent installs easily with a single command and is built on the Muse Spark coding model, previously developed by Meta. This model is capable of managing large projects by launching its own agents that work simultaneously. According to Zuckerberg, when the task is sufficiently complex, Muse Code divides the work into sub-agents that operate in parallel within isolated work environments. This ensures that the user's working copy remains intact. During testing, the tool demonstrated its ability to create six features for a game simultaneously, without causing conflicts.

A Strategy to Compete with Market Leaders

With this initiative, Meta aims to position itself more competitively against major players in the AI sector, such as OpenAI with its Codex agent, and Anthropic with Claude Code. Alexandr Wang, head of AI at Meta and leader of the Meta Superintelligence Labs, told the Wall Street Journal that Muse Code could be a very attractive option for many workflows and use cases, particularly due to its potentially lower cost.

Meta's Expansion in the AI Field

Meta continues to invest heavily in AI development to strengthen its presence in this sector. In June, the company expanded its focus beyond using AI to support its advertising business. It has also entered the enterprise AI market with an agent designed for customer service and support, marking its intention to diversify its AI applications and become a key player in this field.
