Meta Launches Muse on TV Aiming for the General Public

Meta has aired its first commercial for Muse, its personal AI agent, as the app reached the top of the App Store just one day after its launch. This push comes alongside a marketing commitment to a "privacy-respecting agent" and a warning from a cybersecurity advisor about the potential consequences of errors from these tools, which require sensitive access.
Sensitive Access Required and a Security Debate
To function fully, agents like Muse require access to email, credit card information, bank accounts, and various passwords. Jake Moore, a cybersecurity advisor at ESET, believes that a mistake or manipulation could have real consequences and finds this perspective terrifying. Meta, for its part, claims to have taken care to reassure users and describes Muse in its marketing materials as a "privacy-respecting agent."
Television and App Store, Two Showcases for Muse
Meta aired its very first television advertisement dedicated to Muse this weekend. The scene shows a woman preparing dinner while the agent manages emails, schedules an agenda, and makes online purchases for school supplies. On Saturday, Alexandr Wang stated on X that Muse is on track to reach a national audience, "on a television near you." One day after its launch, the Muse app reached the top of the App Store.

What AI Agents Do and Where They Operate
Muse is presented as capable of acting on behalf of the user, particularly for sending emails and making online purchases. More broadly, these personal agents operate in the background, managing online processes and informing users of progress updates. They often reside in messaging applications, where users delegate tasks such as sending emails, making purchases, posting on social media, tracking prices, or managing calendars.
Public Use in Sight and Industry Perspectives
Investor Sheel Mohnot praised another agent, Instinct, on X and believes that the appeal of AI agents is not limited to Silicon Valley. AI agents are now being welcomed into homes, whereas they were previously mostly used by programmers. This "do-it-for-you" technology is being highlighted by Meta, which has launched a television advertisement for Muse and seeks to integrate these agents into the mainstream. Chatbots from Anthropic and OpenAI are described as designed to answer questions, while Muse showcases messages like "Introducing Muse" and "AI that works for you." Despite concerns about privacy, the adoption of these assistants does not seem to be hindered, and Alexandr Wang has publicly promoted Muse.
