Meta recently announced the integration of its virtual assistant, Meta AI, into private messaging on Threads. This new feature allows users to engage directly with Meta's AI, enhancing the user experience on the platform.
Until now, interaction with Meta AI was limited to public posts in certain markets, similar to the use of Grok on X. Now, users can have private conversations with the assistant, adding a new dimension to their use of Threads.
This initiative by Meta aims to retain users within its ecosystem by reducing their reliance on third-party assistants like OpenAI's ChatGPT or Google Gemini. In fact, Meta AI is already present in private messages on other Meta applications, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
The integration of Meta AI into Threads allows users to share posts, images, links, and videos directly with the assistant. They can also ask follow-up questions, enriching interactions and allowing for deeper discussions on various topics.
The rollout of this feature began globally on Monday, according to Meta. The company continues to test Meta AI in public feeds on Threads in a few markets, taking user feedback into account before expanding its deployment. For those who prefer less interaction with Meta AI, options such as muting @meta.ai or using the "Not Interested" option are available.
By further integrating Meta AI into Threads, Meta strengthens the position of its app as a source of information and recommendations, without requiring users to leave the platform.
