Meta Revolutionizes with AI Glasses that Record Continuously
Meta is testing AI-powered glasses equipped with a feature called "Super Sensing" that continuously records the wearer's environment using cameras and microphones. According to several people close to the project, the glasses constantly capture audio and take photos every few seconds. Users could then ask an AI to recall anything they have seen or heard, reports the Financial Times.
The project is already sparking internal debates about privacy. Unlike Meta's current Ray-Ban smart glasses, the Super Sensing mode would not activate the indicator LED light. This means that passersby would have no way of knowing when they are being recorded. These plans could still evolve. Meta is also considering using the collected data to train its own AI models.
Meta showcased related features like "Live AI" at the Connect 2025 event. The idea is that the glasses accumulate context throughout the day, taking into account prior information and assisting users with their tasks. The company's research program "Project Aria" has been collecting firsthand data for AI systems for years, following a similar approach.
The company declined to comment on internal prototypes to the FT, but emphasized its privacy-focused technology.
