Meta, the social media giant, is exploring new ways of working by introducing "AI-native pods" within its Reality Labs division. According to an internal memo reported by Business Insider, this initiative is part of a pilot program aimed at reorganizing certain parts of the company to boost productivity.
Approximately 1,000 employees in the development tools department will be assigned new titles, such as "AI Builder," "AI Pod Lead," or "AI Org Lead." These "pods" are small, cross-functional teams designed to focus on delivering specific results. This could mean that engineers take on tasks traditionally reserved for designers, for example.
The goal of this reorganization is to significantly improve productivity and product quality. Meta highlighted the words of its CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, who anticipates that artificial intelligence will transform work methods by 2026. According to him, projects that once required large teams could be managed by individuals thanks to AI.
Furthermore, Meta clarified that the recent layoffs within Reality Labs are not related to this reorganization. Although several hundred jobs have been cut recently, the size of the teams is expected to remain unchanged despite the restructuring. These job cuts are said to be more related to the high infrastructure costs associated with AI expansion and could affect up to 20% of the workforce.
