Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, is harnessing the power of artificial intelligence to enhance the shopping experience on its platforms. The goal is clear: to positively influence users' purchasing decisions by providing detailed and relevant information about products.
At the Shoptalk 2026 conference, Meta unveiled a new feature currently in testing. This innovation allows users to discover enriched information about products, as well as a summary of consumer reviews, when they click on an advertisement or visit a site via Facebook or Instagram.
An Approach Inspired by Amazon
This initiative from Meta echoes the use of generative AI by Amazon, launched in 2023, to improve product reviews. Instead of sifting through hundreds of reviews, users can read a concise summary generated by AI, which synthesizes the main opinions of consumers.
Meta is adopting a similar approach by offering an overview of user feedback on a product. This summary includes a brief introduction followed by key points, thereby facilitating the decision-making process for potential buyers.
Additional Information and Simplified Payment
In addition to the review summary, Meta enhances the user experience with general information about the brand, product recommendations, potential promotions, and a button for easily adding an item to the cart.
The payment process has also been simplified through a partnership with Stripe and PayPal, allowing users to complete their purchases with a single click. Meta plans to soon integrate Ayden and Shopify to provide even more flexibility for advertisers.
Advertisers Control Payment Partners
Advertisers retain control over the choice of payment partner. Thus, when a user clicks on "Buy Now," they can finalize their order without leaving the Meta app, ensuring a smooth and integrated experience.
New Opportunities for Creators Amidst Competition
Alongside improvements to the purchasing process, Meta is enhancing its product discovery tools. An update for creators expands the range of affiliate partners on Facebook, as competition with TikTok intensifies.
New partners include Amazon, eBay, and Temu in the United States, Mercado Libre in Latin America, and Shopee in Asia. On Instagram, Meta plans to test affiliates like Amazon and Shopee, allowing partners to choose the products to promote and set commission rates.
Expanded Access to Product Catalogs for Creators
Reels creators on Instagram will benefit from access to product catalogs from 22 countries. This feature will enable them to select products to highlight in their videos, enriching their content and increasing their revenue potential.
