Microsoft 365: A Wave of New Features on the Horizon

Microsoft recently announced a series of significant updates for its Microsoft 365 suite, set to roll out in the coming months. Among these new features are a redesign of the toolbar for meetings on Teams, an efficiency mode to reduce resource consumption, and enhanced integration of Copilot into messaging and calendar applications.

Teams: A Redesigned Meeting Interface

Teams users can expect notable changes in the meeting interface. Microsoft plans to modify the toolbar to offer more flexibility in organizing commands. Starting in June, users will be able to customize this toolbar by pinning their favorite actions, removing those they use less frequently, and rearranging the order of commands according to their preferences.

Additionally, the hand-raising option will now be integrated into reactions, and the button to leave the call will be moved to the far right of the interface, thereby minimizing the risk of accidental disconnection.

Another major addition is the efficiency mode, designed to reduce the application's resource consumption, particularly on older setups. This mode aims to improve the responsiveness of Teams, which has often been criticized for its heaviness on less powerful machines. Microsoft has not yet specified whether this mode will be activated automatically or need to be manually enabled by users.

In June 2026, further improvements are planned, such as increasing the capacity of breakout rooms in meetings, which will now accommodate up to 1,000 participants. Moreover, the profanity filter will be disabled by default in live captions to comply with European standards. A new feature will also allow users to report external participants for security reasons.

Outlook: The Era of Copilot

On the Outlook front, Microsoft continues to expand the integration of Copilot. Starting in July, users will be able to see AI-generated summaries directly in search results. These summaries will allow users to switch to a Copilot conversation based on the displayed information, making the search more intuitive and actionable without having to open multiple results.

This feature aims to seamlessly integrate Copilot into daily messaging practices, simplifying access to relevant information.

Beginning in June, Outlook will also introduce a feature for those who miss a meeting but want to stay informed. On mobile, it will be possible to follow a meeting without directly participating, with the option to ask the organizer to record the session and receive notifications on follow-up items.

Other practical enhancements are expected as early as May, such as accessing Copilot directly from the file preview on iOS, and the ability to save calendar events in .ics format in the New Outlook for Windows, complete with a preview of these files before import.
