Mind Robotics, a Rivian Spin-off, Reaches $2 Billion Valuation
Mind Robotics, a spin-off from electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian, recently raised $500 million in a Series A funding round. This round was co-led by venture capital firms Accel and Andreessen Horowitz.
This funding announcement, made on Wednesday, adds to an initial funding of $115 million led by Eclipse at the end of 2025. Thus, Mind Robotics has successfully raised a total of $615 million in just a few months since its inception. According to the Wall Street Journal, this latest funding round values the startup at approximately $2 billion.
Mind Robotics was founded by RJ Scaringe, the CEO and founder of Rivian. The company was spun off from Rivian in November 2025, with Scaringe serving as president. The primary goal of Mind Robotics is to leverage data from Rivian's electric vehicle factory to train more skilled and adaptable industrial robots. These robots aim to bridge a structural gap in current industrial automation solutions.
According to a press release, existing industrial robots are capable of performing repetitive and stable tasks but lack the dexterity and adaptability needed for value-added work in factories. Mind Robotics focuses on developing AI models, hardware, and deployment infrastructure to address this gap.
RJ Scaringe told the Wall Street Journal that Mind Robotics plans to deploy a large number of robots by the end of the year. Unlike the highly publicized humanoid robots, such as those from Tesla, Mind Robotics is focusing on more traditional designs for factories. "Doing somersaults doesn't create value in manufacturing," he stated.
In addition to training data and deployment locations, Rivian and Mind Robotics could collaborate in several other ways in the future. In December, Rivian announced the development of a custom chip for its autonomous vehicle software. Scaringe suggested that this chip could also be utilized by Mind Robotics, highlighting its potential as a robotics processor.
Mind Robotics is the second company created by Rivian in 2025. The first, Also, focuses on electric mobility with products like a modular electric bike and small transport vehicles for Amazon. Also has also been backed by Eclipse and raised an additional $200 million from Greenoaks Capital, reaching a valuation of approximately $1 billion.
