The French company Mistral AI recently announced the acquisition of the Viennese startup Emmi AI, aiming to expand its range of artificial intelligence solutions for industrial clients across Europe. Although the transaction amount has not been disclosed, this acquisition marks a significant milestone for Mistral AI in its expansion strategy.
Emmi AI specializes in developing artificial intelligence models capable of simulating complex physical processes. Among these processes are airflow, heat transfer, and material stress, which are crucial for many industrial applications. In 2025, Emmi AI raised 15 million euros in the largest funding round in Austria, according to a report by Reuters.
On its part, Mistral AI is known for its custom AI systems developed for leading companies such as ASML, Stellantis, and Veolia. These systems are designed to detect production defects or control robotic arms, thus meeting the specific needs of their clients.
The CEO of Mistral AI, Arthur Mensch, stated that this acquisition is a way to strengthen the company's position in strategic sectors such as aerospace, automotive, and semiconductors. By integrating the capabilities of Emmi AI, Mistral AI hopes to offer even more advanced and diverse solutions to its industrial partners.
