An Ambitious New Fundraising Round for Mistral AI
Less than a year after achieving the prestigious status of a decacorn, Mistral AI is preparing for a new fundraising round that could nearly double its current valuation. If successful, this operation would set a new record in the French Tech landscape, already marked by impressive fundraising efforts.
Last September, Mistral AI made headlines by raising €1.7 billion, a sum that shattered previous records. Today, the French company is looking to make an even bigger impact. According to Bloomberg, Mistral AI is in preliminary discussions with investors to raise €3 billion, which would bring its valuation to a spectacular €20 billion. A source close to the matter indicates that this valuation could increase further, depending on the interest shown by investors.
Current Valuation of €11.7 Billion
Currently, Mistral AI is valued at €11.7 billion. The Dutch group ASML holds an 11% stake, making it the company's largest shareholder. Under the leadership of Arthur Mensch, Mistral AI has ramped up initiatives to position itself as a European alternative to American and Chinese giants in artificial intelligence.
Among its recent actions, Mistral AI has made its first two acquisitions by acquiring Koyeb and Emmi AI. The company has also announced an investment of €1.2 billion to build data centers in Sweden. Additionally, it has finalized a loan of $830 million to finance the operation of its first data center in France.
Ambitions and Strategic Partnerships
At the "AI Now Summit," Mistral AI unveiled its ambitions to develop a computing capacity of 200 megawatts by 2027, aiming to reach one gigawatt by 2030. These announcements are accompanied by strategic partnerships, including a five-year agreement with Airbus and an alliance with BMW. Mistral AI is now positioning itself as a "full-stack AI company," asserting its rise as an infrastructure player after initially emerging in the large language model (LLM) segment.
