Mistral Launches Robostral Navigate, Innovative Robotic Model
Mistral has unveiled Robostral Navigate, its first AI model for robot navigation. This 8B model guides robots through complex environments and, according to Mistral, requires only a RGB camera. It achieves a success rate of up to 79.4% on the R2R-CE benchmark, a standard test for navigation in unknown environments. Mistral claims that this surpasses both the best single-camera method and systems using depth sensors or multiple cameras.
The model was fully developed in-house and trained solely in simulated environments, utilizing approximately 400,000 recorded paths across 6,000 different virtual spaces. It operates on wheeled, legged, and flying robots. Mistral has not yet shared details regarding availability.
Mistral views navigation as the foundation of universal robotics and plans to continue improving the model. Experiments with reinforcement learning have already increased the success rate by 3.2 percentage points, with no signs of plateauing. "We are confident that further training and experimentation will continue to drive this number up," the company states.
