The development of this facility is in the hands of Polarnode, a Finnish builder that has already begun work. The center is expected to be operational in phases starting in 2027, according to current plans.
Strategic Partnerships and a Favorable Location
Nebius has recently signed contracts worth a total of over $40 billion with tech giants such as Microsoft and Meta. These agreements highlight the strategic importance of the new center, which will be used to train artificial intelligence models and run various AI applications, without being dedicated to a single client.
Finland was chosen for this project due to its competitive energy rates, reliance on renewable energy, and naturally cool climate. These factors help reduce cooling costs, a crucial element for the efficiency of data centers.
Significant Expansion for Nebius
According to Arkady Volozh, CEO of Nebius, this facility will be the largest for the company outside the United States and will represent about 10% of Nebius's planned total capacity. This project is part of a broader expansion strategy aimed at strengthening Nebius's presence in the European AI market.
