Technical Incident at Notion and Anthropic
This weekend, Notion encountered a technical issue related to its integration with Anthropic, temporarily disrupting access to certain artificial intelligence models. On Sunday morning, Notion informed its users that Anthropic's Opus models 4.7 and 4.8 were experiencing degraded performance, increasing the failure rate for those using them in Notion AI.
In response to this situation, Notion decided to disable the use of all Anthropic models in its automated productivity tool. This interruption sparked numerous reactions on social media, with around 1,200 reposts of Notion's initial message on X.
Reaction and Quick Resolution
Max Schoening, product lead at Notion, expressed surprise at the scale of the reactions, noting that some users hoped the quality of the models was to blame. He clarified that the performance degradation was due to a temporary service interruption, an incident that can occur with many tech services, such as GitHub or AWS.
Twelve hours after the initial announcement, Notion restored access to the Anthropic models. A spokesperson for Anthropic confirmed that the incident was related to an infrastructure issue, causing errors across several Claude models for a brief period. The problem has been resolved, and Anthropic thanked its users for their patience during this interruption.
