Nscale, a British specialist in data centers dedicated to AI, has appointed Fidji Simo to its board of directors. IPO Targeted for This Fall and Possible $3.5 Billion Raise
Nscale is preparing for an IPO scheduled for this fall. According to anonymous sources last week, the company is seeking to raise up to $3.5 billion ahead of this operation. Its valuation has surged since its founding two years ago, driven by the growing demand for AI infrastructure. The company designs, builds, and operates AI data centers.
A Board Built for Scaling, According to Josh Payne
Fidji Simo joins Nscale's board, which already includes members such as Sheryl Sandberg, Susan Decker, and Nick Clegg. Josh Payne, founder and CEO of Nscale, states that Simo is among the few executives capable of understanding the challenges related to scaling products that impact billions of users and the constraints this imposes on underlying infrastructures. He adds that Nscale is precisely developing this type of expertise and that the board has been thoughtfully designed to bring together experience in scaling, as well as independence, financial discipline, and operational expertise suitable for companies of this magnitude.
Fidji Simo's Journey from Meta to OpenAI and Instacart
At OpenAI, Fidji Simo served as CEO responsible for the deployment of AGI and essentially held the role of second-in-command at the lab. She left the organization in July for health reasons and continues to provide part-time advisory support. Previously, she was president and CEO of Instacart, which she took public in 2023. She spent over a decade at Meta, including as head of the Facebook app, and also sits on the board of Shopify.
