Google and the Rise of AI in Software Development
Artificial intelligence has taken a prominent place in the field of coding, and Google is a major player. At the Cloud Next conference, Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, revealed that 75% of the company's new code is now generated by AI, a significant increase from 50% last fall. This massive adoption positions Google as a pioneer in utilizing its own AI technologies for internal development.
An Application Developed at Lightning Speed
AI is not only reducing costs but also accelerating the development process. In April, Google launched the Gemini application for Mac, developed in record time thanks to Antigravity, a tool that enables software creation with AI. Sundar Pichai specified that engineers were able to create a prototype in Swift, Apple's programming language, in just a few days.
Implications for Employment in the Tech Sector
While AI automation allows for faster software development, it also raises concerns about its impact on employment. A report from Insee, published in March, highlights a 7.4% decrease in salaried employment among 15-29 year-olds in the tech sector in the last quarter of 2025. This trend underscores the challenges faced by young professionals in a changing job market.
Google Facing Competition in AI
With these advancements, Google is actively promoting its AI tools for coding, positioning itself against competitors such as Claude Code or OpenAI's Codex. Additionally, SpaceX, which includes xAI, recently announced a partnership with the AI-assisted coding tool, Cursor, and is considering an acquisition option for the company for $60 billion. These strategic moves illustrate the intense competition in the field of AI applied to software development.
