OpenAI Acquires NextSlide to Boost ChatGPT
OpenAI has acquired NextSlide, the startup that transforms prompts, notes, documents, and research into editable presentations. Founder Ahmed Beshry is now working on the product side at OpenAI, developing ChatGPT. The NextSlide website, launched just over a year ago, now displays nothing but its farewell note.
Neither party has disclosed the purchase price. Beshry wrote on LinkedIn that the announcement comes "a few months late" and that the deal was finalized earlier this year. This marks Beshry's second exit; he previously co-founded Caper AI, which was sold to Instacart for $350 million in 2021. TechCrunch was the first to report the deal.
In March, the company launched a ChatGPT add-in for Microsoft Excel. In May, it shipped a plugin that works directly in PowerPoint. As early as summer 2025, OpenAI was already testing agents capable of generating presentations and spreadsheets directly in chat, compatible with Microsoft formats but independent of Microsoft applications.
NextSlide joins a series of acquisitions of small teams, including Sky, Roi, Context.ai, Crossing Minds, and the analytics startup Statsig, which OpenAI acquired for $1.1 billion. In June, OpenAI acquired Ona, a German startup based in Kiel, formerly known as Gitpod, whose team has been working on Codex since then.
