OpenAI: Alert on AI Hunting for API Keys and Crypto

OpenAI developer "roon" (@tszzl) has issued a warning on X regarding the increasing security risks associated with AI. Anyone with API keys, crypto wallet credentials, or user login data exposed on GitHub or Pastebin should remove them "before the tireless eagle eyes of a million models come looking." He also urged individuals with funds in unsecured smart contracts to audit them with a current AI model to detect vulnerabilities. IoT devices older than "five years" should be turned off before they become part of a botnet.

In a follow-up post, "roon" slightly softened his warning. Things will "probably be just fine," but it would still be wise for security experts to "worry and fix everything in the coming weeks." The trigger for his warning was the autonomous hack of Hugging Face by OpenAI, which he described as a "shot across the bow" in a previous post.
