OpenAI Introduces Premium Seats for ChatGPT Business
OpenAI recently announced a new evolution of its professional offering with the introduction of Premium Seats for ChatGPT Business. This announcement, made on Monday, August 10, 2026, marks an important step in the segmentation of its services aimed at businesses. The Premium Seats are designed to meet the needs of users who frequently reach the usage limits of the standard version. This initiative continues the approach adopted for individual accounts with the ChatGPT Pro subscription.
Significant Increase in Usage Capacity
Premium Seats do not alter the existing work environment but significantly increase the usage capacity allocated to each user within the Business space. OpenAI clarified that this decision responds to a recurring demand from its clients, who were seeking a solution that offers more flexibility and usage capacity.
Features of ChatGPT Business Seats
OpenAI's ChatGPT Business plan is designed for teams, offering a shared workspace with centralized billing, and requires at least two seats. The Standard Seat includes access to ChatGPT and various features such as GPTs, plugins, Projects, and Apps. Users also benefit from advanced features like Agent Work, Company knowledge, ChatGPT Agent, and Deep Research. Since June 24, 2026, dedicated Codex seats are no longer available for new workspaces.
In comparison, the Premium Seat introduces three major enhancements over the Standard Seat:
- A usage capacity five times greater
- The removal of the five-hour usage limit
- Weekly usage resets, presented as being more predictable
If, despite these improvements, the usage cap is reached, companies have the option to add shared credits at the workspace level, managed by the owner. Administrators can also mix Standard and Premium seats within the same team, reassign or adjust seats as needed, and manage billing and spending limits from a single interface. The goal is to simplify subscription management within organizations.
Comparison with Anthropic's Offering
This new offering from OpenAI is very similar to that provided by Anthropic with its Team offering for Claude. Since spring, Anthropic has also been offering Standard and Premium seats, with a usage volume five times greater for the Premium seat. Both companies allow mixing seat types within an organization and offer additional credits in case of exceeding limits. The pricing is identical, with a cost of $25 per month for the Standard seat and $125 for the Premium seat. However, the difference lies in the scope of application, as Claude's Premium seat includes access to Claude Code, while OpenAI focuses solely on increasing usage volume.
Limited Access and Ongoing Promotion
For now, access to Premium Seats is not open to all OpenAI Business clients. However, the pricing has already been established, although no euro pricing has yet been communicated. Access is granted via a waiting list, accessible with the email address of the workspace owner account. OpenAI is also offering a promotional deal for the first 10,000 eligible clients, who will receive $100 in workspace credits (equivalent to 2,500 credits) for each Premium seat added, with a limit of five seats, totaling $500. This promotion is valid until August 20, 2026. Additionally, some registrants may be selected for early access, although no specific date for general availability has been announced.
