OpenAI Combines Chat and Work in ChatGPT for Some Users

OpenAI will merge the Chat and Work tabs in ChatGPT, initially for a limited number of users. ChatGPT and Codex will share the same token pool, but Codex will remain separate in the desktop application.
Shared Tokens and Codex Kept Separate
OpenAI plans for ChatGPT and Codex to now use the same token allocation pool. According to the company, this change should not affect most users, but some may have to wait longer for resets depending on their usage and the model employed. Codex will continue to exist separately in the ChatGPT desktop application.
A Unified Interface to Move from Idea to Execution
The new experience will allow users to import files and plugins into a unified space. Users will be able to ask ChatGPT to create a website, prepare a presentation, or perform tasks on the web, while also being able to review and guide the AI's work within the same interface.

Initial Limited Rollout and Market Context
According to an email sent by OpenAI, the merging of the Chat and Work tabs will initially be accessible to a small group of users to gather their feedback before a gradual rollout. Currently, the desktop application is divided into ChatGPT and Codex sections, with the former containing the Chat and Work tabs. In September, Anthropic had already merged the chat and coworking functions of Claude onto a single screen. OpenAI is thus poised to follow this trend by bringing together Chat and Work in ChatGPT.
