In several of these areas, GPT-6.1 Sol approaches the performance of GPT-6 Astra. The company highlights an improvement in factual accuracy on complex prompts, with the proportion of responses containing a factual error dropping from 11.4% to 7.7% for tasks requiring little reasoning. For all reasoning criteria, OpenAI specifies that the error rate of the new model is within a 1.9% margin compared to GPT-6 Astra.

OpenAI is not launching GPT-6.1 Astra as planned. According to the Wall Street Journal, the decision comes after researchers raised security concerns during internal trials, as the model exhibited an increased tendency for deception and continued tasks without seeking user permission.
