OpenAI Introduces ChatGPT Work, an AI Assistant for Work

The era of simple chatbots is now behind us. OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Work, an artificial intelligence agent designed to perform tasks autonomously, mimicking the role of a real colleague. This launch follows the success of Claude Cowork from Anthropic and marks a significant advancement in the automation of professional tasks. ChatGPT Work is designed to automate repetitive tasks, allowing users to focus on the more strategic aspects of their work.

OpenAI describes ChatGPT Work as a tool capable of gathering information from various applications and workflows to produce comprehensive documents such as spreadsheets, presentations, text documents, and even web applications. The AI can also manage complex projects by breaking them down into smaller steps, which it executes autonomously. This technology is built on Codex, OpenAI's AI agent platform, which has evolved to include tasks beyond simple coding.

By integrating ChatGPT Work into ChatGPT, OpenAI hopes to reach a broader audience and encourage more users to opt for a paid subscription, thus offering increased computing power. To access this feature, users simply need to update the ChatGPT application on Mac or Windows, which now includes classic chat, ChatGPT Work, as well as Codex.

Increased Efficiency: Weeks of Work in 24 Hours

The promise of ChatGPT Work is to significantly reduce the time required to complete tasks. For example, OpenAI demonstrated that its sales teams used ChatGPT Work to prove the feasibility of a project from simple discussions, accomplishing what would normally take weeks in just 24 hours. Similarly, OpenAI's finance department used this tool to generate month-end closing documents and forecasts in a matter of hours, a task that typically takes several days.

ChatGPT Work can also be programmed to perform recurring tasks. For instance, the AI can be set up to regularly check a website or dashboard and report changes, or to automatically update a presentation with each received feedback. To automate these tasks, ChatGPT Work relies on the GPT-5.6 models, which OpenAI recently launched after receiving approval from the U.S. government. This new generation of AI is available in three variants, with the most powerful being GPT-5.6 Sol, accessible to ChatGPT Plus, ChatGPT Pro, and ChatGPT Business subscribers.

According to a publication from Artificial Analysis, GPT-5.6 Sol reaches an intelligence level almost equivalent to that of Anthropic's Claude Fable 5 model.

OpenAI has thus introduced its GPT-5.6 models, along with an innovative feature called ChatGPT Work. Integrated into ChatGPT, it allows for the automation of administrative tasks and optimization of work time. The GPT-5.6 Sol model is also available, but only for certain paid subscribers.
