OpenAI Introduces GPT-5.5 Instant: A Major Advancement for ChatGPT
On May 5, 2026, OpenAI launched the GPT-5.5 Instant model, succeeding GPT-5.3 Instant as the default model for ChatGPT. This new version promises a significant improvement in reliability, with a 52.5% reduction in false claims in legal, financial, and medical domains.
More Reliable and Personalized Interactions
OpenAI emphasizes more useful and natural interactions with GPT-5.5 Instant. The model shows a 37.3% reduction in inaccurate statements in complex discussions, reflecting increased reliability. Improvements also extend to photo analysis, responses to scientific and technical questions, as well as the use of web search to provide more relevant answers.
Enhanced Personalization
Personalization is at the heart of this update, featuring a visible and controllable "memory." This functionality allows users to adjust the context of responses by taking into account previous conversations and imported files, including connected Gmail accounts.
A New Memory Interface
OpenAI has introduced an innovative interface that enables users to visualize and manage the contextual elements used to personalize responses. This feature will be rolled out gradually, giving users greater control over their interactions with ChatGPT.
Broader Accessibility
The GPT-5.5 Instant model is initially available to Plus and Pro subscribers on the web, with deployment planned for mobile and the Free, Go, Business, and Enterprise offerings in the coming weeks. The previous model will remain available to paying subscribers for three months before its final retirement.
