OpenAI Launches Dots and a $500 Pro Plan

OpenAI launches Dots, a "always-on" AI agent powered by GPT-6 Astra, and aligns a series of announcements for professional use. Between a Decisions API targeting an already coveted market and a new $500 Pro subscription, the strategy aims at businesses and could raise concerns for startups in adjacent niches.

When large tech companies invest in certain markets, they can diminish the prospects for existing startups in those areas. Several announcements from OpenAI could raise concerns in this regard. The Jev AI model has recently garnered attention in Silicon Valley for its ability to make very rapid decisions. OpenAI has announced a Decisions API aimed at the same segment. The company also claims more than 20 major announcements regarding ChatGPT, Codex, its models, and new ways to work with AI.

Priority access for businesses and a $500 Pro plan

Dots will initially be available to Enterprise, Business Premium customers, and ChatGPT Pro subscribers, with an extension planned later. In contrast, Meta's Muse is free. OpenAI is also launching a $500 per month Pro plan to access its fastest modes and announces an OpenAI Marketplace allowing customers to direct their spending towards partner companies. The company states that over 1.2 billion people use ChatGPT each week. If OpenAI has the necessary computing resources, this new product could be offered to a wide audience.

What Dots promises and the model it relies on

Dots is presented as an always-on AI agent, operating on the GPT-6 Astra model. OpenAI describes it as an intelligence that continuously works alongside the user, for example, investigating a bug as soon as it is reported. Its effectiveness depends on the access granted to the computer, applications, and messaging platforms, according to a compromise similar to Muse and Instinct. Dots is positioned against Muse, as the sector shifts towards this type of personal agents. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, stated at the DevDay conference that this mode of interaction with AI has allowed him to regain some of his attention and feel less dependent on his phone.

Collaborative tools and new models in support

OpenAI is launching ChatGPT Space, a new page in the app for collaboration among colleagues. The company is also introducing GPT-6.1 Sol, a less powerful model than Astra but offered at a significantly lower cost. A collaborative version of an AI tool for presentations allows exports to PowerPoint and Google Sheets. A meeting plugin takes notes, generates summaries, and then deletes the audio.
