OpenAI recently announced the expansion of its AI-based coding assistant, Codex, to mobile platforms iOS and Android. This integration is done through the ChatGPT app, allowing developers to code directly from their mobile phones.
Codex, known for its ability to autonomously generate and modify code, can now be used to monitor and manage coding tasks remotely. Users have the option to review results, answer follow-up questions, approve changes, or even initiate new tasks, all from their mobile device.
The security of this interaction is ensured by an encrypted relay layer, guaranteeing that files and credentials remain secure on the user's local machine. For enterprise teams, OpenAI has introduced additional features such as remote SSH for managed server environments, hooks to customize workflows, and access tokens for automated pipelines.
OpenAI reports that Codex is already used by over four million people each week. The mobile version of Codex is available in preview for all users, including those on the free plan, thereby expanding access to this powerful software development tool.
