OpenAI recently announced a strategic reorganization of its leadership, aimed at strengthening its position in the field of artificial intelligence agents. Greg Brockman, the company's president, has been appointed as the official head of all products. This decision is part of a strategy to unify OpenAI's flagship products, ChatGPT and Codex, into a single agentic platform.
In an internal memo, Brockman emphasized that the main objective for this year is to focus efforts on AI agents. To achieve this, OpenAI has decided to combine its products in order to invest in a unified platform. This initiative comes with changes to the company's organizational structure, although some frameworks established the previous month will be maintained.
Last month, Fidji Simo, head of AGI, took a medical leave, which led to adjustments in management. Brockman has been tasked with product strategy, while Jason Kwon, Sarah Friar, and Denise Dresser have taken charge of business operations. These changes are part of a broader strategy to focus on key revenue drivers such as coding and enterprise, while reducing investments in secondary projects.
OpenAI is considering a potential IPO later this year, which adds additional pressure from investors to generate profits. In Simo's absence, Brockman officially assumes the role of head of product strategy. Under his leadership, four new organizational pillars have been established:
- Core product and platform: led by Thibault Sottiaux, former head of engineering for Codex.
- Critical industries: led by Nick Turley, head of ChatGPT.
- Consumer division: including health, commerce, and personal finance, led by Ashley Alexander, former VP of health products.
- Core infrastructure, advertising, data science, and growth: led by Vijaye Raji, former CTO of OpenAI applications.
Brockman expressed in the memo that OpenAI now aims to "scale agents to the level of ChatGPT," in order to provide increased value and utility to individuals and organizations through its products.
