OpenAI Restores Codex After Outage Due to High Errors
On Tuesday morning, users of Codex, OpenAI's AI-based coding tool, faced "high errors." These disruptions were first reported at 6:32 AM Eastern Time, causing inconvenience for developers who encountered a message stating that the service was "at full capacity."
By 9:50 AM, OpenAI reassured its users by announcing that the "impacted services" had been restored. Thibault Sottiaux, head of Codex at OpenAI, communicated on X to inform that the team was actively working to restore service stability.
Social media was filled with reactions, as users shared screenshots of their inoperable Codex dashboards. The current coding model, GPT 5.5, was overloaded, forcing some to revert to an older model. Tomás Ruiz-López, principal software engineer at GoodNotes, shared his experience, noting that he had received several errors indicating a "Model at full capacity."
This interruption comes as OpenAI seeks to compete with Anthropic and its Claude Code, which currently dominates the AI coding market. Both companies have recently confirmed their intentions to proceed with highly anticipated initial public offerings. For now, an OpenAI spokesperson has not responded to requests for further comments.
