OpenAI has once again decided to postpone the launch of ChatGPT's adult mode, a feature that was supposed to allow verified adult users to access erotic content and other adult materials. Initially announced by CEO Sam Altman in October, this mode was set to be available as early as December.
In December, Sam Altman sent an internal memo declaring a "code red," asking teams to focus on the core experience of ChatGPT, which led to the first delay of the launch to the first quarter of the following year.
A spokesperson for OpenAI recently confirmed to Axios that the launch of the adult mode is once again delayed. The reason given is the need to focus on work deemed a priority for a larger number of users, particularly improving the intelligence, personality, and proactivity of the chatbot.
The spokesperson clarified that OpenAI remains committed to treating adult users like adults, but that achieving the right user experience will take longer than expected. The exact duration of this new delay has not been specified.
