OpenAI is set to unveil a revamped version of ChatGPT in the coming weeks, according to the Financial Times. This new iteration is designed to function as a "super app," integrating coding tools and artificial intelligence agents. The goal is to compete more effectively with Anthropic, particularly in the professional client market.
This strategy also aims to bring OpenAI closer to profitability ahead of a potential IPO. By transforming ChatGPT into a gateway to paid products like Codex, OpenAI hopes to convert its free users into paying customers. A senior employee at the company even stated, "The chat is dead," highlighting a paradigm shift.
Thibault Sottiaux, head of product and platform at OpenAI, explained that the company is working to develop a product where each user would have a personal agent capable of assisting them in all aspects of their lives, both personal and professional.
These super app ambitions are not new. In March, The Wall Street Journal had already reported that these plans represented a strategic turning point for OpenAI, which has since decided to abandon certain side projects like the video generator Sora.
