OpenAI Turns ChatGPT into a Collaborative and Programmable Platform

OpenAI transforms ChatGPT into a programmable workspace. On the agenda: a partner application marketplace, new subscription tiers, workflow automation via MCP, Slack and Teams integrations, and collaborative tools like Space and Pages. Developers also gain access to the same internal building blocks as OpenAI to create interactive extensions.

Paid Offers and OpenAI Marketplace Target Enterprise Use

OpenAI introduces the Pro 500 plan, which offers the highest usage quota and provides access to Ultrafast in ChatGPT and Codex. A $200 subscription also makes a return, featuring a more limited API budget than the previous version. OpenAI plans to gradually align fixed-price subscriptions with API rates to ensure an equivalent quota for the same amount. Both options are available now. For businesses, the OpenAI Marketplace is set to launch with 32 partners, allowing a portion of OpenAI spending to be redirected towards approved partner software. Announced partners include Adobe, Figma, Salesforce, ServiceNow, Harvey, Legora, CrowdStrike, Palo Alto Networks, and Baseten. Additionally, the Connect with ChatGPT feature allows Plus and Pro users to utilize their quota across 16 third-party services, with this usage being deducted from the plan and the ChatGPT account serving as the login identifier. Partner services include Cognition Devin, Notion, Vercel, T3, OpenClaw, and Dactyl.

Automations: MCP Events and Team Tasks Generalize Triggers

The MCP event specification integrated by OpenAI allows for automation triggers during events in connected applications and applies to all plans. OpenAI provides an example scenario where ChatGPT monitors a project board, reads documents associated with the emergence of a new task, and drafts a plan even in the absence of the user. Business and Enterprise customers also benefit from Team Tasks, which enable the delegation of routines such as weekly updates, with ChatGPT autonomously responding to events like new emails or Slack messages.

Documents, Presentations, and Assistant Dot Structure Collaborative Work

ChatGPT Space becomes a shared space for teams, ChatGPT, and the AI assistant named Dot. Members can deposit files, discussions, and projects there, while ChatGPT organizes everything according to the instructions received. Dot handles repetitive tasks, answers questions, surfaces relevant threads, and delegates actions to other agents. Access to Space on desktop and web is available for Pro, Business, and Enterprise offers, while a mobile version is announced. Pages offers collaborative files where users can write, research, create diagrams, design images, explore data, and invite other collaborators to participate in editing. The launch of Collaborative Slides is expected in the coming weeks to allow co-editing of presentations by multiple users and agents, starting from a discussion or templates, with the ability to add comments and export to PowerPoint or Google Slides. OpenAI reminds that it ended a multi-user shared discussion experiment in July to simplify ChatGPT.

ChatGPT Joins Slack and Teams, and Takes Meeting Notes

The assistant is now directly accessible in Slack and Microsoft Teams via the mention @ChatGPT in channels, threads, and direct messages. Team members can use the AI without having their own ChatGPT license, as the AI utilizes the tools connected by the administrator or those of the user if permissions allow. A meeting plugin is set to automatically generate notes and summaries with action items in ChatGPT Space. These notes can remain private or be shared, then used to update a project plan or draft a follow-up message. OpenAI states that audio data is deleted after the summary is created. This plugin will be launched in beta on macOS for Pro and Business offers.

Plugin and Site Extensions: Same Toolkit for Developers

OpenAI opens to external developers the same toolkit used internally to build ChatGPT features and formalizes shared spaces, automated workflows, and a marketplace for enterprise customers. Plugin Extensions allow for the insertion of interactive panels within ChatGPT and the production of visualizations based on the types of files supported by the plugin. OpenAI highlights a simplified Plugin Creator, associated with a revamped submission process offering clearer feedback and better ranking in the directory. Users retain control over the installation and permissions of plugins, accessible across all plans. Supported plugins can also be integrated into Sites, where teams use the same application with their own data and rights, and shareable profiles facilitate discovery and reuse. OpenAI has recruited Sam Yam, co-founder of Patreon, to lead a new product division for creators. This initiative was presented during DevDay.
