If Stripe concludes the acquisition of OpenRouter for over $8 billion, Andreessen Horowitz and Menlo Ventures could reap significant gains. A16z, holding more than 17% of the company, is targeting around $1.5 billion in capital gains, while Menlo's stake would exceed $500 million. The discussions and the price have been reported by U.S. media, while OpenRouter claims to have over 10 million users.
A16z and Menlo: Stakes and Potential Gains
Andreessen Horowitz holds more than 17% of OpenRouter. If the deal were to close at $8 billion, the firm could realize a gain of approximately $1.5 billion. It invested around $20 million to acquire this stake, an investment led by former general partner Anjney Midha. Menlo Ventures holds over 6% of the capital, following a Series A investment. The firm spent less than $50 million for its position, which would now be worth over $500 million.
Stripe Discusses Acquisition Beyond $8 Billion
Stripe is reported to be on the verge of acquiring OpenRouter for over $8 billion, according to sources. The existence of these discussions was first reported, and a price of $8 billion was previously suggested. In this scenario, Andreessen Horowitz and Menlo Ventures could see returns of at least $2 billion in total.
OpenRouter: Profile, Activity, and Key Figures
