Opera recently unveiled a major innovation for its browsers, Opera One and Opera GX, by launching a new feature called Browser Connector. This free tool allows users to integrate artificial intelligence chatbots, such as ChatGPT from OpenAI and Claude from Anthropic, directly into their browsing sessions.
The underlying technology, the Model Context Protocol (MCP), is an open standard developed by Anthropic. It facilitates a secure bidirectional connection between AI models and various external data sources, including search engines. This innovation enables users to benefit from real-time context on open tabs and active content.
Last month, Opera had already introduced MCP compatibility in Opera Neon, its browser. With the Browser Connector, Opera expands this capability to its other browsers, thus offering greater flexibility to users.
Mohamed Salah, Senior Product Director at Opera, emphasized the importance of this new feature by stating that it frees users from the constraints of a single ecosystem, allowing them to choose the best tools for their specific needs.
To take advantage of this feature, currently available in Early Bird mode, users need to access the Settings of their browser, search for “AI Services,” and install the Browser Connector. They can then connect their favorite chatbots, such as ChatGPT or Claude, to enhance their browsing experience.
