Peacock Leverages AI and Mobile to Stand Out
Peacock, NBCUniversal's streaming service, recently unveiled a series of innovations that mark a turning point in its strategy. At a press event, the platform showcased features that rely on artificial intelligence and a mobile-first approach, aiming to captivate users on their smartphones. This new direction draws inspiration from the successes of platforms like TikTok, combining elements of casual gaming and video streaming.
The Immersive Experience of "Your Bravoverse"
One of the standout announcements is "Your Bravoverse," a feature designed for fans of the Bravo universe, known for its reality series such as "The Real Housewives" and "Vanderpump Rules." This innovation allows users to create personalized playlists from over 5,000 hours of Bravo content. Users are guided by a digital avatar of Andy Cohen, an iconic figure from these franchises, who introduces and comments on the clips selected by the AI.
Users start by choosing their favorite shows and moments, after which the artificial intelligence generates a tailored stream of clips. Andy Cohen's avatar serves as the narrator, connecting storylines and suggesting new shows to explore. Behind this experience, Peacock employs computer vision to identify key moments, while AI agents analyze fan behaviors to refine recommendations. According to Peacock, this allows for the creation of over 600 billion possible viewing combinations.
A Dedicated Audience to Test Innovation
Peacock has chosen Bravo fans to test this new approach due to their remarkable engagement. On average, a Bravo viewer consumes about 24 hours of content per month, with some even reaching 75 episodes monthly. "Your Bravoverse" will first be available on mobile this summer before being rolled out to living room devices.
Live Sports and Vertical Format
In parallel, Peacock is exploring new ways to stream live sports on mobile. The platform announced the arrival of vertical broadcasts, optimized for phone screens through real-time cropping. This feature will be beta tested during NBA games this spring as part of "Courtside Live," a mobile viewing option introduced during the 2026 NBA All-Star Game. It allows users to switch camera angles for a more immersive experience.
The Influence of Social Media on Streaming
Peacock is drawing inspiration from social media to enhance its short video offerings. This summer, the platform plans to create a section dedicated to vertical video in response to the growing popularity of TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. This initiative aligns with a broader trend where streaming services seek to compete with social media for user attention.
A Trend Shared by Competitors
Peacock is not alone in this endeavor. Disney+ recently launched a short video feed in the United States, while Netflix plans to expand its short video features to promote new content. These moves reflect a shared intent to adapt streaming services to new user consumption habits.
AI at the Heart of Innovation
Peacock has already experimented with AI during the 2024 Summer Olympics, with a generative recap feature that provided personalized summaries of events. This feature was narrated by an AI voice inspired by sports announcer Al Michaels, illustrating Peacock's commitment to integrating AI into its services.
Expansion of Mobile Games
Additionally, Peacock continues to expand its mobile gaming offerings. After introducing mini-games last year, the platform is launching two new mystery games, "Law & Order: Clue Hunter" and "Public Eye," developed by the startup Wolf Games. These games, which involve collecting clues and using an AI assistant to solve crimes, are part of a partnership with NBCUniversal announced in October.
Peacock is also adding a daily trivia experience based on "Jeopardy!", joining other popular games like "Wheel of Fortune" and "Daily Swap."
A Strategy to Boost Engagement
These innovations reflect Peacock's desire to transform its app into an interactive platform, beyond just a streaming service. This strategy aims to stimulate engagement and growth as the platform seeks to overcome its financial losses. Although Peacock recently increased its subscriber count to 44 million, it reported a loss of $552 million in the fourth quarter of 2025.
