Ribbon AI and the Flexibility of Night Interviews

The recruitment platform Ribbon AI, which utilizes voice AI technologies, has observed a notable phenomenon: approximately 25% of the interviews it facilitates take place between 10 PM and 2 AM local time. This trend is even more pronounced in the manufacturing sector, where this figure reaches 35%. These data come from over 500 companies that have adopted this technology.

Arsham Ghahramani, the CEO of Ribbon, shared during a podcast that this trend could be explained by the fact that some candidates, such as working parents or factory employees, have constraints that prevent them from participating in interviews during traditional office hours. According to him, this technology, far from replacing humans, expands accessibility by allowing candidates who would have been excluded to participate in the recruitment process.

Furthermore, Ribbon has found that the use of its AI interview tool has improved employee retention over 180 days by 10% to 30% among its key clients. Additionally, a major automotive manufacturer has managed to accelerate its recruitment process by 35% thanks to this technology.

The Rise of AI in Recruitment

The adoption of AI in the recruitment field is on the rise, with employers seeking to efficiently manage an increasing volume of applications. Two HR experts have expressed optimism about the potential impact of AI on job interviews.

Tim Sackett, CEO of HRUTech.com and an experienced recruiter, stated that AI interviews could be a major advancement for inclusivity in recruitment. He emphasized that for the first time, 100% of candidates have the opportunity to interview and demonstrate their value for a given position. He anticipates an increase in inclusion in roles and companies as more people have the chance to participate in the recruitment process.

Steve Boese, co-chair of the HR Technology Conference, also highlighted the benefits of the flexibility offered by this technology. According to him, the ability for companies to offer interviews available 24/7 removes a barrier for certain candidates who, out of necessity or choice, prefer to interview at unconventional hours, such as 1 AM or 2 AM.

Candidates' Reluctance Towards AI

A survey conducted by Greenhouse in May revealed that nearly two-thirds of candidates had already been interviewed by an AI agent, representing a 13-point increase in just six months. However, 38% of American candidates indicated that they would prefer to abandon a recruitment process rather than interview with an AI, and 12% stated they would do the same if an AI interview became mandatory.

Additionally, 36% of respondents reported feeling judged differently due to their age, whether in interviews conducted by AI or by humans, while 27% felt similar discrimination based on their race or ethnicity.

Studies have shown that large language models can integrate and reproduce stereotypes present in the data on which they are trained. For instance, a Stanford study from 2025 highlighted that responses from ChatGPT exhibited notable biases against older women and younger workers.

Steve Boese concluded by indicating that while some lament traditional interview methods, such as live phone calls or in-person meetings, it is unlikely that these practices will return on a large scale. Technology, and particularly AI, has now taken a prominent place in the recruitment process, gradually replacing traditional methods.
