Salesforce Invests in AI with the Acquisition of Fin
Salesforce has officially announced its intention to acquire Fin, an AI customer service platform, for $3.6 billion. This announcement was made on Monday, marking a significant step in Salesforce's expansion into the field of artificial intelligence technologies applied to customer service.
Fin, formerly known as Intercom, is renowned for its AI agent capable of managing customer interactions across a multitude of channels, including live chat, WhatsApp, SMS, phone calls, and Slack. This acquisition will allow Salesforce to strengthen Agentforce, its own platform dedicated to creating customized AI agents.
A Strategy to Enhance Agentforce
Marc Benioff, CEO of Salesforce, expressed his enthusiasm in a statement, highlighting that Fin brings proven technology, a deep commitment to customer success, and an exceptional AI team. "Together, we will help businesses of all sizes seize this opportunity — by accelerating time to value with trusted agents that deliver measurable results at scale," he stated.
The integration of Fin aims to enrich Agentforce with advanced service agent capabilities, enabling businesses to benefit from increased automation and improved efficiency in their interactions with customers.
Transaction Details and Future Outlook
The transaction is expected to close during the last quarter of Salesforce's fiscal year 2027, which corresponds to the early months of 2027 due to the structure of their financial calendar.
Eoghan McCabe, co-founder and CEO of Fin, shared his thoughts on this acquisition via a post on X. He assured that, despite the integration with Salesforce, little will change for Fin. McCabe will continue to serve as CEO, while Des, another key team member, will carry on leading research and development.
McCabe also expressed his gratitude to Fin's customers, stating that Salesforce's resources will accelerate the development of their innovations, including their groundbreaking model, Apex, and their in-house agent defining a new paradigm, Operator.
