Salesforce Revolutionizes Slack with AI
Salesforce, the global leader in cloud software, has recently shifted its strategy towards artificial intelligence. During a private event in San Francisco, Marc Benioff, CEO of Salesforce, along with his team, unveiled a revamped version of Slack, enriched with numerous AI features. One of the major innovations is the significant enhancement of Slackbot, the platform's AI agent.
A Multitude of New Features
In total, 30 new features will be gradually rolled out over the coming months. These additions follow a previous update in January, which had already equipped Slackbot with agent capabilities, such as drafting emails, scheduling meetings, and searching for specific information in inboxes.
Reusable AI Skills: A Key Advancement
Among the new features, reusable AI skills stand out particularly. This functionality allows users to define specific tasks for Slackbot, which can then be applied in various contexts. Salesforce has integrated a library of AI skills while also offering users the ability to create their own customized versions.
Once these skills are configured, they significantly simplify employees' work. For example, a simple command in Slack, such as "create a budget" for an event, allows Slackbot to gather all relevant information from Slack channels and connected applications to develop an action plan. The bot can then automatically schedule a meeting to discuss the plan, inviting the relevant people based on their roles.
Integration with External Services
Slackbot now functions as an MCP (Model Context Protocol) client, enabling it to connect and coordinate with external services and tools. Among these tools is Agentforce, Salesforce's AI agent development platform launched in 2024. Thanks to this integration, Slackbot can route tasks or ask questions to Agentforce or any other company agent or application, optimizing the flow of information without human intervention.
Meeting Transcription and Summarization
Rob Seaman, interim CEO of Slack and former product director, emphasized that Slackbot is now capable of transcribing and summarizing meetings. If a participant loses track of the discussion, they can ask Slackbot to provide a recap, including actionable items.
Monitoring and Contextual Suggestions
The AI agent can also operate outside of Slack, monitoring office activities such as business dealings, conversations, calendars, and user habits. By using this contextual data, the bot offers actionable suggestions or drafts follow-ups for essential tasks. Seaman assured that privacy protection measures are integrated, and users can adjust permissions according to their needs.
A Strategic Transformation for Slack
Salesforce is clearly looking to evolve Slack beyond its traditional role as a corporate communication tool, transforming it into a versatile platform capable of handling a variety of business tasks. The goal is for Slack, through these AI enhancements, to become indispensable in the core processes of businesses.
During his speech, Marc Benioff reminded attendees that since Salesforce's acquisition of Slack five years ago, the company has experienced "revenue growth of two and a half times." He also highlighted that "around one million businesses use Slack," underscoring the platform's tremendous growth.
