Salesforce in Talks to Acquire Listen Labs for $2 Billion

Salesforce is in discussions for an acquisition of approximately $2 billion aimed at Listen Labs, a young AI-powered customer analytics platform. The startup claims to have strong traction and major clients, while the deal, which is not yet finalized, remains uncertain. The proposed integration would align with Salesforce's strategy for enterprise agents through Agentforce.

Listen Labs boasts major clients and strong traction

Among its clients, Listen Labs counts Microsoft, Anthropic, Google, Nestlé, Sweetgreen, and Perplexity. Earlier this year, the company announced that it had increased its annualized revenue by 15 times and conducted over a million interviews in nine months. Earlier this year, it was valued at $500 million during a funding round, with Sequoia Capital, Ribbit Capital, Conviction Partners, and Pear VC as investors.
Founded in 2023 by Alfred Wahlforss and Florian Juengermann, Listen Labs experienced growth following the viral success of its first AI avatar application, which recorded 20,000 users on its first day, according to Sequoia Capital. Juengermann won the title of German champion in competitive programming. Listen Labs' software automates much of the qualitative research process, which is traditionally costly and time-consuming, and an early version of the tool was used to interview users. The platform offers AI-driven market analysis.

What Salesforce aims for with Agentforce

The proposed acquisition would bolster Salesforce's ambition to make Agentforce more than just a tool for automating repetitive tasks. Listen Labs could enhance understanding of customer sentiments, recommend products, and generate pitches for sales teams. Salesforce is focusing on enterprise agents in its AI efforts, and it has been reported that it considered acquiring Hugging Face before its sale to Nvidia.

Negotiations for $2 billion remain uncertain

The discussions revolve around an amount of approximately $2 billion, but they are not finalized and could fail, according to sources close to the matter. Neither Salesforce nor Listen Labs responded to requests for comment. Listen Labs was recently valued at $500 million.
If the deal were to go through, it would fit into a recent sequence of transactions in the AI space, including Nvidia's acquisition of Hugging Face for about $12.9 billion and Stripe's purchase of OpenRouter for approximately $8 billion.
