During an episode of the podcast "Invest Like The Best," Altman stated, "I think for my job, for example, the world wants to know the person who will be responsible for the decisions of a company, and who they will hold accountable if mistakes are made. They don't really want an AI CEO." This statement reflects an evolution in his thinking since last November, when he expressed a different vision in the podcast "Conversations with Tyler." At that time, he had said he would be disappointed if OpenAI was not the first major company led by an AI CEO.

The Importance of Human Interaction

Altman also highlighted that the emphasis on humanity is a reason why AI has not "disrupted" the economy as much as he initially expected. "People have a great trust and enjoyment in working with other people," he said in "Invest Like The Best." He noted that while one can already hire AI consultants or interact with AI sales representatives, most people still prefer human interactions.

Altman personally shares this sentiment. "I definitely prefer to interact with a person rather than with an AI for almost everything," he asserted, underscoring his attachment to human relationships.

Altman illustrated his viewpoint by mentioning that, even though AI models can produce impressive images, artworks created by humans retain a particular value. "There's this joke that, at this point, the signature on a piece of art represents most of the value, but the truth is you want to know the person behind it," he explained. Altman also revised his position on the impact of AI on the job market. He recently expressed satisfaction at having been wrong about the short-term impact on entry-level jobs. Previously, he had predicted that AI would eliminate "entire classes" of jobs, but he now finds that the impact is less dramatic than expected.
