Samsung Electronics Adopts ChatGPT and Codex on a Large Scale
Samsung Electronics has made a strategic decision to integrate ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex for its employees worldwide. This initiative represents one of the largest implementations of OpenAI technologies to date. All employees of Samsung Electronics in Korea, as well as those in the Device eXperience (DX) division internationally, will benefit from this powerful tool.
A Wide Range of AI Applications
The company plans to leverage ChatGPT and Codex across various sectors, including research and development (R&D), manufacturing, marketing, and other corporate functions. The goal is to enhance employee productivity and improve their problem-solving skills. While Codex was initially designed for software development, its utility now extends to other types of work.
Diverse Tasks Made Easier with ChatGPT
With the integration of ChatGPT, employees at Samsung Electronics can now perform a variety of knowledge-based tasks more efficiently. This includes researching and analyzing information, drafting documents, developing innovative ideas, and interpreting complex data.
Security and Efficiency with ChatGPT Enterprise
ChatGPT Enterprise offers features tailored for businesses, enabling secure and efficient use of AI. This includes data protection, user and access management, as well as stringent security controls. These features allow Samsung Electronics to utilize advanced AI while adhering to security policies and the company's governance framework.
Codex: A Versatile Tool for All Employees
Codex not only enhances developer productivity through tasks such as writing, reviewing, and debugging code, but it is also useful for non-technical teams in their daily activities. For example, employees can use Codex to turn ideas into operational software, create internal tools, develop websites, and automate workflows.
Growing Adoption of Codex
Currently, over 5 million people use Codex each week for both technical and non-technical roles. In Korea, the number of weekly active Codex users has seen a dramatic increase of nearly 800% since February 1, 2026.
Significant Collaboration with OpenAI
Harrison Kim, General Manager of OpenAI Korea, emphasized the importance of this deployment for OpenAI. He stated that Samsung Electronics' adoption of AI, as a global leader in technology and manufacturing, is significant because it is not limited to certain teams or functions, but serves as a central platform to enhance work methods and innovation on a global scale.
A Strategic Partnership for the Future
OpenAI is closely collaborating with Samsung Electronics to help its employees become proficient with ChatGPT and Codex. This aims to accelerate the transition from ideas to execution, solve complex problems, and create new products and services.
An Expanded Relationship Between Samsung and OpenAI
Previously, OpenAI and Samsung Electronics had already begun collaborating in the field of global AI infrastructure. Samsung Electronics is working with OpenAI to provide advanced memory semiconductors necessary for next-generation AI infrastructure. With the adoption of ChatGPT Enterprise, the relationship between the two companies extends beyond AI infrastructure to include workforce transformation and enterprise-wide AI adoption.
The Rise of AI in Korea
In Seoul, Seoul National University has recently started offering ChatGPT Edu for free to all 47,000 members of its community, including students, faculty, and staff. This is part of its transition to an AI-native campus. OpenAI has also collaborated with Kakao to integrate ChatGPT into the KakaoTalk messaging platform, allowing users to ask questions and receive answers directly in group chats.
Widespread Adoption of AI
Many companies in Korea, such as LG Electronics, LG Uplus, LG CNS, GS E&C, Samsung SDS, TVING, Krafton, Toss, MUSINSA, Korea Zinc, Nexen Tire, HanaTour, Day1Company, and Worxphere, are also using ChatGPT Enterprise, OpenAI APIs, and Codex.
