Samsung Targets Mistral: One Billion Euros to Dominate AI
Samsung is in talks to invest up to one billion euros in the French AI startup Mistral, which would raise the company's valuation to around 20 billion euros. According to the Financial Times, less than a year ago, Mistral was valued at 12 billion euros. Samsung has already invested in Mistral through its venture capital fund in 2024, and Swedish investor EQT is also expected to participate in this new funding round. Samsung continues to expand its footprint in the AI industry. The company is one of the largest manufacturers of memory chips in the world and is also in discussions with Anthropic for the production of a custom AI chip.
Mistral's CEO, Arthur Mensch, stated in an interview in February that he expects annual revenue to exceed one billion dollars by the end of the year. This week, Mistral also expanded its partnership with Microsoft, with the American company committing to spend billions on Mistral's computing infrastructure. Mistral is increasing its GPU capacity with thousands of Nvidia Vera Rubin chips and making its models available via Microsoft’s Azure cloud, including in isolated environments without internet access for regulated sectors like finance and healthcare.
