Spotify: Paid AI Mixing Set for 2027

Spotify is preparing an AI music mixing service expected to launch in the first quarter of 2027, with a presentation planned around the Grammy Awards. This service will not be included in the basic subscription and will cost an additional $4 to $5 per month. Artists will receive royalties for each mix, with every modified track counted as a stream of the original song, and each artist will have the right to refuse the use of their songs. Agreements have reportedly been signed with Universal, Merlin, and Believe, while discussions are ongoing with Sony Music and Warner Music. Spotify also claims to have removed over 75 million AI-generated tracks.
Expected Royalties and Right of Refusal Amid AI Track Removals
For each mix produced by the upcoming service, royalties will be paid to artists, and any modified version will be counted as a stream of the original track. Artists will be able to individually oppose the use of their songs, even if their label has signed an agreement. Spotify also specifies that it has removed over 75 million tracks created by artificial intelligence.

Target Timeline Around the Grammy Awards in February 2027
The launch of the AI mixing service is scheduled for the first quarter of 2027. Spotify is considering presenting this service during the Grammy Awards ceremony in February 2027.
Not Included in Basic Offer and Announced Monthly Supplement
The AI mixing service will not be included in Spotify's standard subscription. Access will require an additional fee of $4 to $5 per month. Spotify believes that some subscribers may be willing to pay an extra 4 or 5 euros per month to access these features.
Planned Features and Licensing Agreements
The service will offer the ability to alter the style of a track, for example, by adapting a folk song into a more upbeat version, or having a song sung by a different artist. Spotify has already secured licensing agreements with Universal, Merlin, and Believe, and discussions are ongoing with Sony Music and Warner Music.
